Today I had a chance to stop by one of the Durham Region's Walk for Muscular Dystrophy's sponsors- Honey & Tea, located in Oshawa. Like most people I have been looking for a healthy alternative to drinking pop or coffee. As many of us already know that when it comes to living with Muscular Dystrophy or any other condition, taking care of our health is very important. I will be honest it has been a rough four months for me as I am having some issue with my health related to stress. I believe the second we start eating healthier food and drinks we will fee a lot better. In the past I was a huge pop drinker, I tried to replace this habit with coffee but I had to use excessive amounts of sugar to be able to drink it. As the saying goes 'You are what you Eat' therefore I believe healthy food can help me with stress. A few months ago my wife and I stopped by Honey & Tea to find a remedy for my fatigue: they suggested I try their Energize Tea. Like most people I was more than a little skeptical that it would have any affect on me, yet surprisingly I felt much better that day! Since then I have become open to the idea of drinking tea on a regular basis as a part of a healthy and delicious lifestyle. Now that my wife and I are both drinking loose leaf tea it has become my job to make the tea for both of us. Bag tea drinkers will be surprised at how easy it is to prepare loose leaf tea. My wife uses a special mug that comes with an infuser basket that she bought at Honey & Tea. All you have to do is take your loose leaf tea and place it in the infuser basket to steep for the prescribed amount of time. Although the Energize tea is my favourite Honey & Tea blend, I have tried a few more teas since my first experience at Honey & Tea and I am amazed by the variety of flavours. Most loose leaf blends require one and a half tea spoons per cup and If you want another cup you can always re-steep the leaves again. There are no instant miracle cures out there but drinking tea is now something I do on a regular basis, it feels good knowing that a beverage I enjoy has sooo many health benefits. There might not be a way to help slow the progression of my Muscular Dystrophy but the truth is that anyone can benefit from eating healthier and drinking tea no mater what issues they are facing in life. I also find it relaxing finishing off the day with a cup of loose leaf tea. So as you can see after reading this blog post, YES men do drink tea!
